While enlisted, his primary duties were preventive and corrective maintenance on acoustic analytical processors, and ADP equipment including personal computers and peripherals. He installed and maintained a 25 node Novel PC LAN including software installation and upgrades, and assisted in all aspects of a total system overhaul involving the disconnection and removal of all equipment, and installation, interconnection and testing of nine complete HP UNIX systems, workstations, fiber optic LAN, and related peripheral equipment. Mr. Yorke was direct supervisor to technicians in the preventive and corrective maintenance department for various digital electronic equipment onboard USS Enterprise. Once his enlistment was over, he spent three years as an Information Systems Specialist, Microcomputer Programmer and Systems Engineer for the Commander in Chief, U.S. Atlantic Fleet. His position included supporting 1200 clients and 1800 PC’s with unclassified Internet or classified network connectivity. He designed and coded HTML pages and site-specific graphics and icons for the local Intranet.
